Abstract

AL-Ethterab in Arabic language is intended to mean three things: difference, imbalance, and movement. This term is used in prophetic tradition to mean that there are two equal narrations which have the same narrators but they cannot be united or prefered one to another. If such trait found in prophetic tradition, it indicates weakness and it is an evidence that the narrator with no full integrity. In prophetic tradition, AL-Ethterab may be found at Sanad (narrators) or Matin (saying of prophet Mohammed peace be upon him). It is generally found in sanad and it is rare to judge on prophetic tradition (matin) to have such trait without its existence in sanad. In this study, the researcher aims at showing the reason on which Abu Hatem judges on prophetic tradition to have trait of AL-Ethterab. The present research studies eleven prophetic tradition, nine of them have AL-Ethterab in sanad, and one of them in Matin. It also contains another prophetic tradition with AL-Ethterab but not specified in sand or matin .
